Our programmes respond to the practical, educational, emotional and social needs of vulnerable children and families. Through direct assistance, structured activities, counselling, outreach and referrals, we help children receive support at home, at school and within the wider community.
We provide cooked, nutritious and balanced meals to help children receive the nourishment they need. The centre also distributes food parcels and school uniforms to vulnerable children and families, helping to relieve immediate pressure and ensure that children can attend school with dignity.
We monitor children’s school performance and communicate with educators when additional support is needed. By maintaining these connections, the centre can identify educational challenges early, encourage regular participation and help children remain engaged in their learning and personal development.
We provide bereavement counselling, peer support and guidance to children experiencing difficult circumstances. Children may also be connected with home and community-based care services and supported through an individual development plan that responds to their particular emotional, social and practical needs.
Our after-school activities provide children with a structured and supportive environment beyond regular school hours. Children receive self-protection education, including HIV and AIDS awareness, while also participating in household responsibilities, recreational activities and extra-mural programmes that encourage confidence, responsibility and positive behaviour.
We organise educational trips and holiday camps that allow children to learn beyond the classroom, discover new environments and participate in positive group activities. These programmes keep children meaningfully engaged during school holidays while supporting social development, teamwork and enjoyable learning experiences.
Through outreach, we identify vulnerable children, child and youth-headed households and families requiring assistance. We connect them with crèches, bursaries, poverty-alleviation programmes, government departments and other stakeholders. The centre also establishes and monitors support groups for children, young people and community caregivers.
Working Together
The challenges faced by vulnerable children are often connected, which means one service alone may not be enough.
Taaibosch Drop-In Centre brings together material assistance, educational support, psychosocial care, structured activities and community outreach. We work with children, families, educators, caregivers, government departments and other stakeholders to understand individual needs and connect people with appropriate support.
These linkages may include crèches, poverty-alleviation programmes, bursaries, financial assistance and other services that can strengthen a child’s wellbeing and future opportunities.
